Some days reaching your lifetime goals can seem overwhelming and impossible. This might be because you are going through a stressful time and have too many things on your plate. This can throw you off your path and make you feel discouraged. The key is to find ways to get back on path, find out what you want to do in life and then make plans for how to get there.
Getting Back on Track
You had a goal but you aren't sure what happened to it. It has been lost in life and everything that it has given you. Not to say that this is a bad thing, many things are great events that you will cherish forever such as getting married and having kids. However, these things can put your goals on hold or make you lose sight of them. Now is the time to revisit the goals you had before life started happening. Even if you have goals that are not the same as you had before these events. The key is to identify what you want out of life and start working towards it.
For your first exercise, write down what you would like to see yourself doing in 10, 20, or 30 years. Remember to keep your goals realistic and attainable. You do not want to set yourself up for something that might be unlikely to happen no matter what you try.
Writing down your goals can help you get back on track. You can look at these goals and finally see where you are going instead of just moving through life in darkness. With goals, you have something you can hold on to and reach for. This gives you a sense of purpose and accomplishment when you do reach these goals and the mini-goals you make along the way.
Creating your Mini-Goals
After writing down all the goals you would like to accomplish in life, it is time to break it down. As you know, you can't reach a goal without working towards it. Many goals can be far out into the future and it can get frustrating when you don't have some rewards along the way. You can keep yourself moving forward and feeling as if you are making your way up to your dreams by making min-goals.
Now look at your goals you have written down in the last exercise. Write down all of things you need to do to reach those points in your life. What do you need to accomplish and when do you need to do it, in order for you to make it to your dreams? Set deadlines for yourself. This is the only way you get stay motivated. Once you reach a mini-goal, you will feel a sense of pride and know that it will only be a matter of time before you reach the top.
Final Thoughts
You can't reach your goals without working towards them. If you don't know what they are then you aren't working towards anything. This is why it is important to identify your dreams and then create a plan of action to reach them. Life is short and you only have a certain amount of years to do what you want to do. Start now and you will feel better about yourself, your life and everything that life has given you.
