Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) was a self-proclaimed American psychic. He became renowned for the claim hat he was able to answer questions on personal subjects such as health and astrology, reincarnation and even the lost island of Atlantis. He was able to do this by means of channeling a spirit guide while in a self-induced trance.
Due to his many public performances he became quite a celebrity in his later years. One of his main areas of teaching was in relation to the Akashic Records. Over his lifetime, Cayce gave hundreds of personal readings. He claimed that to obtain the information he was tapping into the Akashic library.
Cayce described his journeys to the Akashic Library in some detail. Traveling out of his physical body, he became a minute spec of light, lost in a lonely and oppressive darkness. After spending some moments in the darkness he would perceive a brilliant white light which he followed to the Akashic Records. He also described passing through a number of levels among some of which he could discern vague movement. At first Cayce said he saw grotesque and horrible figure, the kind that nightmares are made of. As he progressed the figures became misshapen human figures with parts of their bodies somehow abnormally large. As Cayce’s direction changed, the figures move upwards and their clothes became lighter in color and their bodies more regular. Eventually he passed through normal looking towns with trees and houses until gradually he is drawn on by birds singing, laughter and music. Finally he encountered an old man who each time handed him a large book. Inscribed inside the book were the answers he sought, relating to the questions from the client he was reading for.
One case had been handed the individual record he would find within it the information which he felt would best help the individual at that time in her life. Cayce described the individual books of life as “The record that the individual entity itself writes upon the skein of time and space, through patience - and is opened when self has attuned to the infinite, and may be read by those attuning to that consciousness.”
Cayce’s readings from the Akashic Library suggest that we are each responsible fro writing out own records through our feelings, thoughts and interactions and that by exploring these records we can gain insight to not only our own nature but also that of others and the world in general. The readings that he left behind have inspired and helped many people over the last century in many different fields.
Edgar Cayce continues to be a major influence upon the New Age Movement. There are Edgar Case centers throughout the United Sates as well as in 25 other countries around the world. The major organization promoting Cayce’s teachings in the Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE) is located in Virginia Beach.
